New Orleans celebrates the life of Dr John

John Dunlop

A private memorial was held at the Orpheum Theater in New Orleans on Saturday, June 22nd, celebrating the life of Big Easy luminary Mac Rebennack, also known as Dr John, who passed away on June 6th at the age of 77. Following the memorial, a public second line filled with adoring fans, Mardi Gras Indians, and the funeral procession wove its way through the Crescent City. Dr John personified New Orleans, bringing its music and culture to people all over the world. He lives on in all those whose lives he touched through his music and activism. Rest In Peace, Dr John!
