New Orleans music legend Art Neville has passed away at 81

Arthur Lanon “Art” Neville, singer, songwriter and keyboardist, founding member of The Meters, The Funky Meters, and part of one of New Orleans’ storied musical families, the Neville Brothers, passed away on July 22, 2019, at the age of 81. Born in New Orleans on December 17, 1937, the Grammy Award winning artist played on recordings by many notable artists from New Orleans and elsewhere, but is best known for New Orleans funk and rhythm and blues he played with the bands he cofounded. Rest in peace, Art Neville - we miss you already.

Music pioneer Dave Bartholomew passes away at 100

David Louis Bartholomew, a New Orleans music legend, died on Sunday, June 23, 2019, at the age of 100. He was a musician, bandleader, composer, writer, arranger, and producer in many musical genres including Big Band, swing, R&B, rock and roll, New Orleans and Dixieland Jazz. Bartholomew is best known for his numerous successful collaborations with Fats Domino and other artists, as well as for his significant and influential role in the transition from swing and jump blues to rock and roll. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and recognized for these achievements, being dubbed “one of the Crescent City’s greatest musicians.”

R&B, rock ‘n roll and blues guitarist, singer, bandleader and actor Deacon John Moore was born in New Orleans on June 23, 1941. Happy 78th birthday to a true Big Easy legend!

New Orleans celebrates the life of Dr John

A private memorial was held at the Orpheum Theater in New Orleans on Saturday, June 22nd, celebrating the life of Big Easy luminary Mac Rebennack, also known as Dr John, who passed away on June 6th at the age of 77. Following the memorial, a public second line filled with adoring fans, Mardi Gras Indians, and the funeral procession wove its way through the Crescent City. Dr John personified New Orleans, bringing its music and culture to people all over the world. He lives on in all those whose lives he touched through his music and activism. Rest In Peace, Dr John!

Lil' Buck Sinegal has passed away at 75

Born Paul Alton Senegal in Lafayette, Louisiana, Paul “Lil’ Buck” Sinegal, the legendary blues and zydeco guitarist and singer passed away on June 10, 2019, in his Lafayette home. Known as the Master of the Stratocaster, he played with Clifton Chenier, Buckwheat Zydeco, and many others during his 60 year career.
