15th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina

John Dunlop

Early on the morning of August 29th, 2005, Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the Louisiana delta region and the Mississippi coast. The storm surge brought enormous damage to the Gulf Coast and, when the levees around New Orleans failed, a great number of fatalities. This tragedy does not define the region, but we must never forget.

Running of the Bulls - San Fermin en Nueva Orleans - Interactive ZOOM Party on 7/11!

John Dunlop

Virtual Fiesta! Where? Comfort of your own home or venue of choice! When? Saturday July 11, 9:30am NOLA time, 7:30am L.A. time! On Saturday July 11th, 2020 all are invited to join the team as they present a way to revel with the friends they normally see each year, but cannot due to the virus.

We're working to bring as much "normal" entertainment as we can.  The Reverend Psych Ward will be your host from Amish Country and Los Pastores will be in New Orleans (finally able to join the party rather than running around like mad).  We'll bounce around to some of our favorite fans' parties, have some live entertainment pop in, and of course we'll have our RollerBulls!!!

Here's the plan.  Find a host, or be the host.  Register for your ZOOM access code to join the interactive party. Invite your friends, or enemies, let's use this however it best suits us.  Blend up your sangria, get dressed in your finest San Fermin attire and get together the morning of July 11th.  You can start as early as you like, we wont judge!  We'll open the virtual doors at 9:30am central time.  Why so late?  Well we wanted our West Coast friends to be able to get up at a decent hour, it is only fair.  Don't get used to it locals, we go back to crack o dawn in 2021.

The access code is $20, good for the host plus 1...that's $10/head.  We ask that your guests chip in too and are asking the same.  They can send via PayPal to merchandise@nolabulls.com...this is on the honor system!  We'd love to be able to donate a little to our friends this year and hope that you will join and support us!

Preservation Hall presents "‘Round Midnight Preserves" on Saturday, June 20th!

John Dunlop

Preservation Hall presents ‘Round Midnight Preserves, a benefit event, on Saturday, June 20th, at 8pm NOLA time & 6pm L.A. time. ‘Round Midnight Preserves will feature a series of unforgettable musical collaborations, never-before-seen performances from past Midnight Preserves, and commentary from Preservation Hall Creative Director Ben Jaffe and director Danny Clinch. Special guests include Irma Thomas, Jon Batiste, PJ Morton, Dave Grohl, Elvis Costello, Beck, Jim James and Nathaniel Ratliff.

Preservation Hall is normally open 360 days a year, with members of their Musical Collective performing 3-7 shows per night for upwards of 170,000 people annually, and participating in year-round music education initiatives through the Preservation Hall Foundation during the day. Since mid-March, the Hall has been closed, and our Collective of 60 musicians are without work and without income. Funds raised during the program will benefit the Preservation Hall Foundation and the Collective’s musicians, providing for their well-being during this crisis, and ensuring a solid future for the generations of New Orleans musicians still to come. Spotify has pledged to match donations to help provide support and resources to the members of the Collective. If you are able to give, please consider helping to protect, preserve and perpetuate New Orleans music and culture for years to come.

Join us on Saturday, June 20th at 8pm NOLA time & 6pm L.A. time, and watch this unforgettable event on:

Celebrating Juneteenth!

John Dunlop

Juneteenth is the commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. It was on June 19, 1865, that Union troops overcame the resistance in Galveston, Texas, and announced the Civil War was over and enslaved people were free. While the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect on January 1, 1863, it wasn’t until this day, two and a half years later, over two months after General Lee surrendered, that federal forces were able to influence and overcome the resistance in Galveston, and enforce President Lincoln’s Executive Order.

Today Juneteenth is a national day of pride that celebrates African American freedom and achievement, while encouraging continuous self-development and respect for all cultures. On Juneteenth we acknowledge the African American spirit and pay tribute to the roles and contributions which have enriched our society. And for New Orleans, we have a lot to celebrate!
